: SIMBA was independently reviewed by the Health Education West Midlands Diabetes and Endocrinology Specialist Training Committee and the CPD accreditation council of the University of Birmingham. Health Education West Midlands Diabetes and Endocrinology Specialist Training Committee advises and manages training in diabetes and endocrinology within the West Midlands Deanery. The committee is equivalent to an institutional review board in our region and made up of consultants, trainee reps and other administrative staff representing various hospitals in the region. The process and pilot data of SIMBA was presented to this committee where it was rigorously reviewed to ensure effectiveness, security and data protection aspects. Once satisfied, they approved SIMBA to be included as part of teaching and training sessions for the deanery [CitationRef removed]. A similar process was undertaken by the CPD accreditation council of the University of Birmingham to provide approval for SIMBA protocol. Participation into SIMBA session was voluntary and all participants completed an electronic registration form after they reviewed the agenda of the session which served as an informed consent to participate. All methods were carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations.
