Ethics approval and consent to participate
: All participants had signed up for participation in the patient empowerment synergy project in relation to the renewal of their commitment to the EIP on AHA network in 2017. The questionnaire was distributed using an introduction email. The participants were informed that the study was part of the synergy project in the network and that the results would be shared amongst the networks members and also that the results would be published in a research paper. They then had to activate a link after reading this. This was interpreted as an informed consent to use the data. Additionally at the end of questionnaire participants had the opportunity to decline the usage of their quotes in the publication. In this study, no biological material or medical devices were used and the participants were not subjected to any kind of diagnostics or treatment. Consequently, approval from the Danish National Committee on Health Research Ethics was not required, which is the case for all studies only involving interviews and questionnaires [CitationRef removed].
