Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The study has been approved by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection (MoHSP) of Tajikistan on 3 May 2016 (No 15/2551–2351). The approved study protocol outlined obtaining written consent if possible, but allowed audio recorded oral consent, to improve participation in face of an already high non-respondent rate. All study participants were informed of the content and purpose of the study and their rights as participants. Following their agreement, the audio recording was started and the consent had to be repeated to be on tape. The process was overseen by internal and external monitoring activities.
