: This sttement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans. Particular attention was devoted to Chap. 9, Research Involving the First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples of Canada (24). There was consultation throughout the project with a First Nations Elder, medicine woman and healer who has extensive experience working with health researchers. This study was approved by the University of Toronto research ethics board. Territorial research licenses were obtained from the Aurora and Nunavut Research Institutes. Informed consent was obtained from each participant. The online consent form included the following statement: “By beginning the survey, you acknowledge that you have read this information, have had your questions answered, and freely agree to participate in this study. You may print or retain a copy of this form for your records.” Participants demonstrated their consent by initiating responses to the voluntary online survey.
