: Ethical approval for the CHIEDZA trial was obtained from the Medical Research Council of Zimbabwe (MRCZ/A/2387) and the LSHTM Ethics Committee (16948). This included provision for the STI sub-study and evaluation of its implementation. Permission was obtained from the Ministry of Health and Child Care to enable STI testing to be performed outside a laboratory setting and by non-laboratory personnel. As for all CHIEDZA services, verbal consent was obtained for CT/NG testing. Written informed consent was obtained for qualitative interviews, which included consent to publish anonymous quotes from individual participants.
