: Chicken experimental infections and sample collection from layers during erysipelas outbreaks were approved by the Uppsala regional Ethical Committee for Animal Experiments, permit no. C46/16, according Swedish legislation and directives (SJVFS 2019:9 L 150) based on European Union legislation directive 2010/63/EU. Chicken experiments were carried out at the animal facilities at the National Veterinary Institute, approved for experimental animals by the Swedish Board of Agriculture.The owner’s informed consent was obtained for all privately owned laying hens. Permission to use sera from the National Veterinary Institute biobank was granted by the Swedish Board of Agriculture.
