: Prior to the commencement of the study, ethical clearance was obtained from the IPT Biomedical Ethics Committee (Decision N° 2017/04/I/LR11IPT03/V1). All experimental protocols involving animals were performed in accordance with the Guiding Principles for the Care and Use of Research Animals and Animal Research: Reporting In Vivo Experiments (ARRIVE guidelines) and with the relevant national/international/institutional regulations. All methods were conducted according to the ethical standards of the Declaration of Helsinki. Informed consent was obtained from all subjects and/or their legal guardian(s) for the Questionnaire of the study. Prior to each survey and blood test, informed permission was obtained from the owners at all sites, who were kept fully aware of the study's goal, approach, and progress. Vaccination and blood sampling were only performed in the presence of the owners and following informed agreement in all situations. All study participants who handled, collected, and processed blood samples from animals received pre-exposure rabies immunisation. Animals were handled with care during blood collection to reduce pain to avoid distress.
