: The tissue (rat skin) was collected as frozen carcasses from an approved animal ethics project. This project was reviewed and approved by the University of South Australia Animal Ethics Committee. The University of South Australia run in compliance with the current edition of the Australian Code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes (NHMRC), Animal Welfare Act 1985 and Animal Welfare Regulations 2012. The University of South Australia is licensed under the Act to acquire and use animals for teaching, research or experimentation involving animals. The use of scavenged tissue is not regulated by the South Australian Animal Welfare Act 1985 nor by the Australian Code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes (8th Edition, 2013). However, the Code encourages the sharing between researchers of tissues from deceased animals for in vitro work, training, or method development. The University of South Australia strongly supports such use of scavenged tissue, as it contributes to the Reduction, Replacement, and Refinement principles of the Code. This scavenge tissues collection was reviewed and noted by the University of South Australia Animal Ethics Committee at the time of collection. We confirm all experimental protocols were approved by the University of South Australia Animal Ethics Committee and all methods were carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations.
