: The study protocol was designed and performed following the rules of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Zagazig University, Egypt (IACUC approval # ZU-IACUC/2/F/234/2022). Ducks were purchased at private local markets while cattle egrets were collected from the field in the nearby villages in El-Sharkia governorate, Egypt. All the birds were humanely transported in a ventilated closet to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Zagazig University. Birds were housed in suitable cages under specific conditions of controlled temperature and humidity. Food and water were available ad libitum. Birds were allowed to acclimatize for two weeks before the actual experiment began. Collection of specimens was performed in accordance with the guidelines of the institutional guidelines.
