Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The research protocol was approved by the institutional review board of Zorgaccent. As our study involved the development of an observation scale on quality of life that was completed by professional caregivers only, the Korskoff patients themselves were neither subject to procedures nor required to follow rules of behavior. Consequently, our study does not fall under the Dutch Medical Research Involving Human Subjects Act (WMO), and thus deemed exempt from review by an accredited medical ethics committee (MREC) or the Central Committee on Research Involving Human Subject (CCMO). All data were recorded in such a way that no patient-identifying data were made available to the researchers.
