: This work was part of the PhD study, which was approved by the Higher Degrees Research and Ethics Committee, School of Biomedical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, Makerere University (reference number: SBS-HDREC-630) and Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (reference number: HS-2574). For the retrospective arm of the study, data were abstracted from the case files in the respective hospitals and the Kampala Cancer Registry. A waiver of consent was therefore obtained from the Higher Degrees Research and Ethics Committee, School of Biomedical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, Makerere University, to access the data and perform H&E staining on the tissue block samples. The patient data, which were accessed from the case files in the respective hospitals and Kampala Cancer Registry, were anonymised and maintained with confidentiality.
