Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethical clearance was sought from the University of Venda’s Ethics Clearance Committee (Ethics Number: SHS/19/PH/17/2608). Permission to conduct the study was also sought from the Ministry of Health and Child Care and the Ministry of Education in case respondents are to be followed up at schools. Permission was also be sought from the participating Health Facilities where Health Care workers would be interviewed. Permission to conduct the study in the specific districts was sought from traditional leaders (Traditional chiefs and headmen). Written consent was sought form all participants. Since data would also be collected from adolescents (some of who would be under the age of 18), written “consent” would be sought from their parents / legal guardians and adolescents themselves would “assent” to be part of the study. Information sheets and assent forms would be provided for participants to ready and sign if they agree to be part of the study.
