: Porcine brains were acquired from a Danish industrial slaughterhouse (Danish Crown, Horsens), which is under supervision from the Danish Ministry of Environment and Food. Rats used for isolation of primary astrocytes were bred and group-housed in our local animal facility at an ambient temperature of 22–23 °C on a 12/12 h dark/light cycle under inspection of veterinarian and according to the Danish regulation for lab animals. The rats were handled in accordance with international guidelines on the ethical use of animals (European Communities Council Directive of 24 November 1986; 86/609/ECC) and Danish guidelines.
