: No study participants were involved in the preparation of this article, that was conducted during routine analysis. Moreover, the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale del Mezzogiorno (IZSM) was designated by the National Ministry of Health as official laboratory for the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2, thus, for national regulation and internal policy, ethic approval was deemed unnecessary. IZSM is part of Italian IZS labs network and provide support to Public Health services to meet the extraordinary surge in demand for diagnostic testing of human samples for SARS-CoV-2 by making available appropriately equipped and competent veterinary laboratories in accordance to the guideline (Veterinary Laboratory Support to the Public Health Response for COVID-19) described by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).ExternalRef removed.
