: The Regional Committee for Medical Research Ethics approved the Trondheim msTBI study (reference number 2009/2328), with the present study approved as an extension. The study was approved without the requirement of patient consent for the patients in the GH group. For the Trondheim msTBI study, written informed consent was obtained from the surviving patients or their next of kin for incapacitated patients. Permission was obtained from the Norwegian Directorate of Health to use data from deceased patients without consent from their next of kin. All data access committees of the individual GHs have approved the access to medical journal records (reference numbers 2017/1523, 17336/2017, 2017/1033-8, and 13/1373).
