: All procedures involving animals in this study were approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of UTHSCSA (Protocol #13091X).Acquisition of all tissue specimens was approved by the ethical committee of the Second Military Medical University, Shanghai, China, in accordance with procedures and guidelines set by the local ethical committee. Formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded sections were acquired from the Department of Pathology, Shanghai Changzheng Hospital, Second Military Medical University, between January 2011 and August 2016. The cohort consisted of 177 surgically resected astrocytic tumor specimens, including WHO I grade astrocytoma (n = 14), diffuse astrocytoma (n = 27), anaplastic astrocytoma (n = 18), and glioblastoma (n = 118). All cases were re-evaluated to confirm their pathological diagnosis and grading by two independent experienced neuro-pathologists (Dr. Hui-Min Liu and Dr. Wei-Qing Li) using the WHO classification criteria [CitationRef removed]. There were 101 males and 76 females in the cohort with a median age of 47 years (range, 11–80 years). None of the patients had received preoperative chemo- or radiotherapy. The mean follow-up period was 18.6 months (range, 1–72 months). Tumor sizes, locations, extent of surgical resection, and post-operative consolidated treatment were recorded. The clinic-pathologic characteristics of the patients are summarized in (Additional File InternalRef removed: Table S1).
