: All animal use was approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of the University of Arizona or OHSU and adhered to the NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. The details of the animal study reported here are in compliance with ARRIVE guidelines.De-identified human brain and lung tissue specimens were obtained from the Oregon Brain Bank (brain) or the Arizona Donor Network (lung). The Oregon Brain Bank and the Arizona Donor Network collected the samples under their own IRB-approved protocols and obtained appropriate consents. The studies presented here were reviewed by the OHSU IRB (for brain) and the University of Arizona IRB (for lung) and determined not to be human subjects research requiring separate IRB-approved protocols because we only had access to de-identified tissue samples.
