Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethics approval for the UPAVAN trial was granted from the Odisha Government’s Institutional Review Board, Research and Ethics Committee, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha (date approved 3 September 2016, Letter No. 141/SHRMU). Ethics approval was also obtained from the LSHTM Interventions Research Ethics Committee (date approved 10 October 2016, Reference No. 11,357). The trial is registered with ISRCTN (doi:ExternalRef removed). Informed cluster-level consent was sought from village leaders to participate in the trial before randomisation, and individual informed consent will be obtained from all participants in the trial prior to their participation in the study.
