Ethics approval and consent to participate
: This project has been reviewed and approved by the University of Otago Human Ethics Committee. Reference: 18/168.The research will be conducted in full conformance with principles of the “Declaration of Helsinki”, Good Clinical Practice, and within the laws and regulations of Aotearoa New Zealand. Quality assurance of the technical aspects of the project has been established by ongoing input from established academics in the relevant aspects of experimental design, both within the University of Otago and an international external advisor (Professor Brian Parkinson, University of Oxford, UK). For statistical procedures, support was provided by a University biostatistician, for both the power analysis and advice on conducting future analysis.Potential participants will voluntarily respond to an advertisement, following which they will have time to read an online information sheet. This will make clear all features and implications of involvement in the project and that—if they consent to participate—participants will be able to withdraw from the process at any time. In withdrawing, they will also have the option of withdrawing all of the data they provide that can be directly attributable to them. The data will, however, be de-identified in any outputs from the project: only the research team will be able to link data to a participant during data collection and will destroy the key that permits identification once data analysis is complete. Participation will only be confirmed upon confirmation of a completed and signed copy of the consent form (Additional File InternalRef removed) (again undertaken online), and contact details will be provided to ask any questions prior to consent. (N.B. allocation to groups will take place at a later date.) This process will be overseen by the lead researcher (correspondence author). Anonymity of participants will be preserved by ensuring that only de-identified data is reported or shared using the numerical ID issued to participants.
