Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethical approval was obtained from the University of the Witwatersrand Human Research Ethics Committee. The participant information leaflets and consent forms were written in simple English, however to enhance understanding, the explanation and discussion was in isiZulu, Sepedi, Xitsonga, or English depending on the participant’s language preference. A researcher was present throughout the informed consent process and clarified any questions the participants were not clear about. Once they are fully informed about the study, participants were asked to sign informed consent for the interview.
