Ethics approval and consent to participate
: An ethical clearance was obtained from the National Ethics Committee for Human Health Research (N°2015/01/543/CE/CNRESH/SP) and an administrative authorization was granted by the Cameroon Ministry of Public Health (N°631-1315) prior to the beginning of the surveys. The study was also approved by the Ethics committee of the Medical Faculty of Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium. The objectives and schedules of the study were explained to health district management teams, the community leaders, the community drug distributors and to all heads of households selected before requesting a verbal agreement to participate. Participation was entirely voluntary and any individual (or parent of a child) was free to opt out without fear of retaliation from their community leaders and programme personnel.
