Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Human blood used to rear the main mosquito colony was obtained from the blood bank (Sanquin, The Netherlands) where donors filled out an informed consent. The female mosquitoes emerging from larvae that survived exposure to sublethal <i>Bti</i> doses were fed on human blood <i>via</i> arm feeding. The Medical Research Ethics Committee of Wageningen University concluded that the experimental procedure did not require ethical approval according to the Dutch ‘Medical Research Involving Human Subjects Act’.
