Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The study was approved by the Ethics Review Committee of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the Ministry of Health in Benin. Human volunteer sleepers who slept in the huts to attract mosquitoes gave informed consent before their participation and were offered chemoprophylaxis. Throughout the study, sleepers were examined regularly for signs of fever by a stand-by nurse; any sleepers testing positive for malaria were withdrawn from the study and treated.
