Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The study protocol was approved by the institutional research commission of the University of Salamanca. All experiments were carried out under project number Ref. 335 and conformed with the Ethics Committee of the University of Salamanca, which approved the animal protocol. Animal procedures in this study complied with the Spanish (L 32/2007, L 6/2013 and RD 53/2013) and the European Union (European Directive 2010/63/CE) guidelines on animal experimentation for the protection and humane use of laboratory animals and were conducted at the accredited Animal Experimentation Facility of the University of Salamanca (Register number: PAE/SA/001). All efforts were made to minimise animal suffering. The animals’ health status was monitored during the experiments according to the Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations (FELASA) guidelines.
