Declarations

: This project has the approval of the Fiocruz ethical research committee (CAAE 11751613.5.0000.5248) and authorization of the Health Department of the city of Posse. Prior to insect release, Posse health agents helped with the selection of houses with high T. sordida infestation allowing for the collection of insects used in the study. The owner of the rural property where experiments took place received detailed information on the project objectives and signed a written informed consent form allowing for the release and recapture of insects at his property. We were not granted clearance to search for insects inside the household itself. University of Brasilia’s Ethical Committee authorized insect blood-feeding on avian hosts (protocol number: 346.721).
