: The manuscript does not contain clinical studies, patient data, or individual data and is an observational study of goat health. The study was conducted in accordance with research ethics procedures approved by the Animal Science Department Ethics Committee at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), Malawi. Informed consent of goat smallholders for study participation was performed prior to health screening and sample collection from goats, with the objectives of the study explained. All participants were informed that they were free to withdraw from the study at any time, and consent was obtained through signatures for literate participants or verbally declared in the presence of LUANAR team members for illiterate participants. All goats were provided with veterinary care as needed during examination by veterinarians including J Ventura-Cordero, J Van Wyk, and E R Morgan in the presence of local veterinary officers. Veterinary officers were also provided with training and supplies for follow on veterinary care in the area.
