Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The study on the 100 samples with lung cancer panel from Simcere Diagnostics was deemed exempt from review by Simcere Diagnostics Institutional Review Board (IRB). All data used were existing de-identified data with somatic variant calls, and each of the patients signed a consent form before the clinical cancer panel testing. Due to protection of patients’ privacy, the consent forms did not include any items allowing to share the patients’ data publicly. The study on the five samples with pediatric cancer panel from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) was approved by the CHOP IRB as a retrospective analysis (IRB 17-013802). A waiver of consent and assent was obtained due to the retrospective nature of this study and no more than minimal risk (breach of confidentiality) to subjects. However, this waiver of consent or assent does not cover depositing full/raw datasets into publicly available databases due to risk of breach of confidentiality. This research was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
