: Sampling deep-sea corals in the Gulf of Mexico does not require permits. Acknowledgement letters were acquired for all research cruises from NOAA following the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act. Collections in the Florida Keys were approved under permit FKNMS-2014-148-A2 and survey permit FKNMS-2010-130-A1 from the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Collections in CuraƧao were approved under CITES permit numbers 16US784243/9 and AN001.
