Established policies of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) of the University of California, Davis, were followed for sample collections, housing, and medical care. The study was performed at the California National Primate Research Center (CNPRC), which is one of seven centers supported by the National Institutes of Health, Office of the Director (NIH/OD), and is accredited by the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC). The CNPRC houses nonhuman primates, most of which are rhesus macaques (<i>Macaca mulatta</i>), in outdoor corrals or indoor cages.
