: All animals were treated according to protocols approved by the Department of the Environment and Housing (DMAH, Generalitat de Catalunya, Spain) in an SPF housing facility located at the IDIBELL/Bellvitge Campus of the University of Barcelona with free access to food and water under a physiological light/dark cycle. No breeding was necessary for the experimental procedures described, and all animals were provided by commercial vendors prior to utilization. A 1-week adaptation period was allowed before handling for experimental procedures. The research was conducted in compliance with the Spanish legislation on the “Protection of Animals Used for Experimental and Other Scientific Purposes” and in accordance with the EU Directive 2010/63/EU on this subject. Besides, the study complies with the ARRIVE guidelines developed by the NC 3Rs and the efforts to reduce the number of subjects used.
