Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The impact assessment was part of the routine monitoring and evaluation activities of the national NTDP. Ethical approval was obtained from the Ethics and Scientific Review Committee of the MoHS. Community informed consent was obtained following discussion with District Medical Officers, Chiefdom school inspectors, head teachers and community-teachers’ associations. All communities included in the survey were sensitized by representatives of the district NTDP and the survey teams upon arrival prior to sample collection. Verbal consent was sought from parents during these meetings. A written consent was obtained from the school head teacher and the village head on behalf of the pupils recruited. Children enlisted were also sensitized on the purpose of the activity prior to sample collection. Participation was voluntary. All data generated or analysed during this study are included in this published article and its supplementary files.
: Although consent was obtained from participants before the study, data collection was conducted such that participants remained anonymous during data entry and analysis. No individual’s identity can be revealed upon publication.
