: Informed consent for the original NICHD SECCYD was obtained from parents and assent was obtained from children when they were old enough to do so. Informed consent for the SECCYD follow-up study, SHINE, was obtained from the now adult children. For the SECCYD, the research was approved by the Institutional Review Boards (IRB) of each university-based study site (e.g., University of California, Irvine IRB; University of Virginia IRB Social and Behavioral Science; Temple University Human Research Protection Program). For SHINE, the research was approved by the Human Subjects Division of the University of Washington.
