: Ethical approval for the study was obtained from the Ethics Review Committee, Faculty of Medicine, and the University of Ruhuna (Additional file InternalRef removed: ERC letter). Permission was granted from the Director of THK, Consultants, and Sisters/In-Charges to conduct this research in the Oncology ward and informed written consent was obtained from all the participants included in the study during the completion of the questionnaire, participants were able to ask questions. All participants read and offered signed informed consent before joining in the study. The data that were collected were kept safely and confidentially. Those who were willing to participate in the survey voluntarily were recruited. For the scale validation process, permission was obtained from the original authors of Brief COPE. All methods were carried out in accordance with the relevant guidelines and regulations.
