: The study was performed in accordance with relevant institutional and ethical guidelines of the German Psychological Society (DGPs) [CitationRef removed] and with the principles expressed in the Declaration of Helsinki. Formal approval of the study was not mandatory since the study is a non-clinical trial which did not involve patients or clinical outcomes. In Germany, there is no legal obligation for psychological studies to obtain an ethics vote. Exceptions are studies on minors or patients or the performance of fMRI measurements. The European Network of Research Ethics Committee states for the country Germany that there is a legal obligation to obtain ethics votes only for medical and pharmacological studies [CitationRef removed], which does not apply in the present case. Binding guidelines regarding ethics in psychological studies exist in Germany, but there is no legally binding requirement to obtain an ethics vote. We have fully complied with these guidelines. Central in Germany is the national ethics committee at the DGPs, which develops “Ethical Guidelines of the German Society of Psychology and the Professional Association of German Psychologists” [CitationRef removed]. We carefully considered all aspects mentioned in the guidelines and conscientiously addressed them in the conduct of our study. Anonymity of participants` data and confidentiality of their data were ensured. All participants were informed about the study’s aims and procedure and gave their written consent to participate and to the processing of their anonymized data.
