Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The study was approved by both the University of North Carolina IRB and the Malawi National Health Sciences Research Committee. Prior to and during the training, we explained that the purpose of the training was to train the participants in contraceptive implant and intrauterine device insertion, and that we would be analyzing the participants’ baseline characteristics and implant insertion scores after the training using the standard Malawi levonorgestrel implant insertion evaluation form. Verbal consent was given by the participants when they chose to participate in the training and give their baseline information to the trainers. This information was then documented in the study database.
