: This study was carried out in strict accordance with the Polish legislation for the use of animals in research (Act of 15 January 2015 on the protection of animals used for scientific or educational purposes). The protocol was approved by the Local Ethics Committee 0069, Resolution No. 42/2016 at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. Animals were restrained using a cushioned crush specifically designed to restrain deer movements - a handling box (2 m × 2 m × 0.6 m) only for a few minutes. At that time, the fallow deer were weighed, the blood was collected, and the antlers were measured.
